How the LECO 828 Series Works
The 828 Series uses a combustion technique with a vertical quartz furnace to determine nitrogen/protein, carbon/nitrogen, and carbon/hydrogen/nitrogen in diverse organic matrices, including food, feeds, soils, and fuels.
- Samples are automatically weighed into a tin capsule or encapsulated in tin foil and loaded into the 828 Series analyzer.
- The sample undergoes a fully automated analysis sequence, first entering a sealed purge chamber to remove atmospheric gas.
- After purging, the sample is transferred to the furnace, where it is combusted in an oxygen-rich environment for rapid oxidation.
- Depending on the model, gases from the furnace are analyzed for carbon (CO2), nitrogen (N2), and in the CHN828 model, hydrogen (H2).
- For sulfur analysis, the CHN828 model includes an afterburner to scrub sulfur compounds from the gas stream before it is analyzed.
This process ensures superior throughput while maintaining the precision and reliability that LECO is known for.
